This footage was taken whilst on holiday at Vilamendhoo in South Ari Atoll, Maldives 19-28th Feb 2020.

The video starts with snorkelling / free diving footage and ends with footage of a scuba dive on the house reef. I say free diving, I'm not a free diver just to give you context, this was me trying to get as close to cool things for as long as possible without drowning. A few times when I saw larger sharks I pushed myself to my limit but that is just the limit of your average Joe who's had a couple of cocktails at lunch!

The dive towards the end was our first solo dive after getting our PADI Open Water whilst there with the incredible Eurodivers. You can hit them up here: https://www.euro-divers.com/scuba-diving-maldives/vilamendhoo-island-resort-spa/

Big shout out to Guido from Eurodivers - our incredible instructor. He led us from anxious newbies to confident enough to dive by ourselves by the end of the trip and we couldn't have asked for a better instructor.

Like many others, our research lead us to this special island for it's incredible house reef and marine life, also the high chance of seeing Mantas and Whale Sharks all year round (in South Ari Atoll). We met so many people on the island who have been returning year after year and I know why, it really is quite special.

The house reef is amazing. Like many reefs in the Maldives, parts are bleached but still abundant with life. You can explore the shallow areas and see a lot but the magic is on the drop offs. There's plenty of beautiful coral to explore!

How cute are the Octopuses holding hands! And the sharks! It was our dream to have encounters with sharks in the wild and we saw so many it became a normality during our holiday.

Apparently we had unusually unsettled weather for this time of year. Some days were windy and we had some rain and so sometimes the visibility wasn't great. Even so, it didn't dampen our spirits and we had some glorious weather. If we weren't eating or sleeping, we were in the water and loving it!

The island, the accommodation, the food, the service, the dive school and the experiences in the water were everything we hoped for and more.

This was my first time filming with a GoPro. I used the Hero 8 + 'The Handler' grip and shot everything in 4k 60 knowing that I wanted to slow it down in post. I didn't use any filters or lighting and everything was shot on the flat profile with some correction / grading in Final Cut Pro.

I hope you enjoy the footage and find this useful if you are considering going to Vilamendhoo. I wanted this to be a taster of what you can expect right there on the island.

I'll make a separate video of our dive to Manta point - one the most incredible experiences of our lives!
