CP Air - Canada's Second Airline

While the likes of Westjet and Air Transat now take a large chunk of the Canadian commercial aviation market from national carrier, Air Canada, for 59 years between 1942 and 2001, the main rival to the flag airline was Canadian Pacific Airlines and its many guises, a private company founded under the ownership of the Canadian Pacific Railway company, and would put up a fierce battle for domination of both domestic and international travel.

Known most famously for its 1968 to 1986 incarnation as CP Air, complimented by its striking orange, red and bare metal livery, the airline, in the face of stiff limits set by the Canadian federal government, was creative and fought well for what routes it could, although wider economic problems and poor choices during the 1980s and 1990s would ultimately spell the end for this former staple of the Canadian airline scene.
