In this episode of our camper van travels in Norway we leave Nordkapp (North Cape) behind and travel to the beautiful island of Vardø, north of Russia. The scenery is bleak and dramatic and the weather throws everything at us.
We have close encounters with reindeer and a majestic golden eagle.
We arrive on Vardø in time to celebrate Andy’s birthday with ginger cake and Swedish whiskey.
The next day we visit the ‘must see’ art piece Drakkar/Leviathan which keeps watch over the strait between the island and mainland and then The Steilneset memorial (Witch's memorial) site which commemorates the trial and execution of 91 people from the Finnmark region in the 1600’s for witchcraft.
Join us on our continuing adventures above the arctic circle.
