Hello everybody. As I write this script there are meetings happening within the EU as well as G7 meetings. This is all in preparation for a large planet wide conference in November, organised by who else but in the United Nations.
The topic they discuss is, climate change. The process where the climate is moving towards increasing hostility to plant animal and human life. And I guess fungy. This is of course a topic you’ve no doubt heard about if you lived at some point in the last 30 years.
This year a special focus of the UN will likely be on the war between Ukraine and Russia. It turns out wars are super bad for the environment. You thought people driving everywhere was a problem? An average car uses about 10 litres of fuel to travel 100 kilometers. A tank needs over 400 litres for that distance.
And no tanks don’t use bio fuel, they are often made to run on far lower quality fuels than modern cars. Because less processed oil may be a lot more available in war times but it also pollutes way more. On top of that bombs, rocket launchers, jet planes, ballistic missiles and even gunshots all release co2. War is a disaster for climate change. Not that that would have stopped Putin.
But even ignoring the war the world is emitting too much Co2. Coal and oil power plants, air travel and even the full grocery stores in the western world all slowly poison the air we breathe, in addition to messing up the climate.
But you know that, everyone knows about climate change and it’s projected destruction of the only inhabitable planet in the universe. But there are some who play really dumb for political reasons. They say climate change is not happening. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt when I say they are playing dumb, because maybe they are actually so stupid as to ignore scientific meta studies.
Meta studies by the way are the most definitive studies in science. You know about things like experts, observations and studies, but then there are double blind trials which are even better because they almost exclude scientific bias. And then there are meta studies. They look at all the data from many available sources that are below them in the pyramid and then draw conclusions.
Meta analysis are the collective summary of all human scientific knowledge on one subject. They are incredibly likely to portray the truth. As such I will not engage in antiscientific debate.
