In Geiranger, the attractions you should experience are based on the beautiful Geirangerfjord. The World Heritage-listed fjord is known far beyond national borders and is a fantastic experience in itself. Geiranger is also a great base for mountain hikes and fantastic nature experiences, all with great views.
Geiranger is a settlement in Stranda municipality, in the innermost part of the Geirangerfjord, a side fjord of the Storfjord in Møre og Romsdal. The name probably comes from Norse ger (spear) and angr which means fjord.

Well-known attractions are the buildings Geirangervegen and Ørnevegen, the lookout points Flydalsjuvet, Ørnesvingen and the mountain Dalsnibba, and the fjord with the waterfalls Bruresløret, Friaren and De syv søstrene. In a side valley is Storsæterfossen, a waterfall that is possible to walk behind.

The Geiranger and Nærøyfjord were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005. In 2006, these two landscapes were named, by the American magazine National Geographic, the best-preserved among all UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Geiranger Church is an octagonal church from 1842, located by the farm Maråk. At the farm, Vinje is a burial mound from the Viking Age. Among the oldest farms in the village is Gjørva, in the Middle Ages it was under Bakke monastery in Nidaros.
