Elon Musk Sides With Toyota, Says The World Needs Oil and Gas

Today Tesla CEO Elon Musk echoed what Toyota usually says about oil and gas cars. Speaking in Norway Musk said we need oil and gas in the short term.

Elon Musk landed in Norway on Monday. The Tesla founder, who is one of the main guests at the 2022 Offshore Northern Shore (ONS) conference (ONS-22) in Stavanger, thanked Norway for its support for sustainable transport.

"I want to thank the leaders & the people of Norway for their long-standing support. I do think we actually need more oil & gas for civilization to function. But simultaneously moving fast to a sustainable energy economy," Musk said at the conference.

You know, a lot of time the media and EV supporters critique Toyota for its slow approach to electric vehicles. But Toyota also basically says the same thing as Musk says.

We have heard Toyota executives arguing that hybrid vehicles still make sense in markets where infrastructure is not ready to support a faster move to EVs and is exploring the viability of green fuels for internal combustion engine cars, including hydrogen.

When asked if Norway should drill for more oil and gas for now, Musk noted that he thinks “some additional exploration is warranted at this time.” That said, he also highlighted that offshore wind power generation in the North Sea could become a crucial source of power, especially if it’s combined with battery packs. “It could provide a strong, sustainable energy source in winter,” Musk said.

While advocating for more oil and gas Elon Musk said the development of sustainable energy must be accelerated.
