Welcome to Life At Sea Season 3 Episode 8.

This transit is going to cover how we tackled a Narrow river while being on a large ship.

It's not an easy task manoeuvering a ship of this size with counter acting currents at the mouth of the river basin. The captain gave me the opportunity to utilize the engine and thrusters to keep the vessel stationary at one position ( just like in a dynamic positioning vessel )

What is a dynamic positioning vessel?

Dynamic Positioning (DP) is a vessel capability provided via an integration of a variety of individual systems and functions*. A computer control system automatically maintains a vessel's position and heading by using her own propellers and thrusters.



Merchant navy has various departments & I am from the Navigation department. I have recently been promoted to the rank of a 2nd Officer onboard Maersk Ship.
