Did you know that riverine barriers, such as dams, weirs and culverts have detrimental effects on fluvial ecosystems, like blocking the migration routes of fish species? In Europe alone there are more than 1,000,000 barriers, and this number is only expected to grow due to climate change.
The Free Flow webinar will present ways to protect rivers and restore their longitudinal connectivity. It will demonstrate how dam removal can be applied to reach the European biodiversity target of restoring 25,000km of rivers. This exciting and informative session will include keynote presentations, short interviews, polls and live interviews from the field.

The event was part of the International River Symposium which took place in Vienna in November 2022.

The webinar is hosted by World Fish Migration Foundation behalf of Dam Removal Europe Coalition and supported by European Center for River restoration, Dutch Ministry of Nature and Nitrogen, The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and Rijkswaterstaat.
