Monthly webinar to highlight the NCS2030 centre, activities, and research.

First speaker: Viktoriya Yarushina, researcher at IFE. Her presentation is titled Predicting fluid migration pathways and dynamic flow localization in the subsurface.

Abstract: Gas chimneys, fluid-escape pipes, and diffused gas clouds are common geohazards above or below most petroleum reservoirs and in some CO2 storage sites. However, the processes driving the formation of such structures are poorly understood, as are the time scales associated with their growth or their role as long-term preferential fluid-migration pathways in sedimentary basins. In this talk, we present multidisciplinary results from laboratory experiments, advanced seismic processing, and high-resolution simulations that shed new light on the nature of the focused fluid flow.
