Our sixth year in a row boat angling in Norway at XLyngen. We managed to escape from the worries of the Covid pandemic for a week and had our best fishing there yet. This video is the output from seven GoPros, some strapped to the two boats and others on selfie sticks to film underwater, a Water Wolf as well to capture the fish in their domain. I experimented this year with a camcorder as well for the zoom, but it was just too shaky to use much of the footage when filmed standing in a boat.
Plenty of banter at the filleting tables with a great bunch of mates, much of which had to be edited out, looking forward to next year's trip which is booked already.
Most of the Norway boat fishing methods published in the UK work well, but check out the Scandinavians for their excellent results trolling Karikko's, we have previously had halibut to 120 lb doing the same. We found our most successful fishing methods this year to be big shads or dead baits and my preference was for the latter, oily fish are the best. Shoals of herring start to arrive in late August and you get to see the Northern Lights too if you visit XLyngen in September onwards. The herring shoals are in abundance later on and peak in December, which can be the best time to come whale watching, including plentiful Orca.
We book our Norway fishing holidays through Anglers World.
