Hedvig Elisabeth Charlotte was a German princess who married the brother of Gustav III, the king of Sweden. It was hoped that her arranged marriage to a Swedish duke would help secure the succession to the crown. It turned out that in the end Charlotte was not able to produce an heir. What she accomplished though was offering a written account of life at the Royal Court during the late part of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. She was a very intelligent princess who found her vocation in life by writing. Today we will follow her story.
