Miss Universe is an annual international beauty pageant that is owned and operated by the Miss Universe Organization. The pageant is one of the three largest beauty pageants in the world, alongside Miss World and Miss Earth. The Miss Universe Organization has a licensing agreement with IMG, a global sports, fashion, and media company, to produce the pageant. The pageant was founded in 1952 by the California-based clothing company Pacific Mills. The current president of the Miss Universe Organization is Paula Shugart.

The Miss Universe pageant is held annually and features women from around the world who compete for the coveted title of Miss Universe. Since then, Nepal has sent a number of contestants to the Miss Universe pageant, with the most recent being Sujita Basnet, who represented Nepal in the 2021 Miss Universe pageant.

Despite Nepal's small size and relative lack of international recognition, the country has had a number of successful contestants in the Miss Universe pageant. In 1973, Indira Gurung became the first Nepalese contestant to place in the top 15 of the Miss Universe pageant, and in 1984, Bipana Chand became the first Nepalese contestant to place in the top 10. Nepal has yet to win the Miss Universe title, but the country's participation in the pageant has helped to raise its profile on the global stage and has provided a platform for Nepalese women to advocate for various charitable causes and promote their personal and professional goals.
