Between the Folds was a collaboration between Cabinet of Curiosity Studio and Norwegian dance company Dybwikdans to create a new dance piece for the BIG BANG music festival at Stavanger Concert Hall, Norway.

The concept of ‘the fold’ directed the design process. A physical origami model of a paper fold was used as the basis for the costume design. The intention was that the costume, movement and sound would combine to transform the foyer space of Stavanger Concert Hall into a folded space. The piece was performed within an interlude, inhabiting the fold between the musical concerts and the architectural space.

The performance was viewed by a family audience in transit from the main performance auditorium via passageways, balconies and stairwells at various floor levels overlooking the public foyer space, providing differing views and perspectives of the dance piece.
