Borders on Budgets takes on a new travel experience with budget challenges: the Svalbard Islands in Norway's High Arctic. Can travel in Norway be affordable? How expensive is this country?

How High is the High Arctic? The Svalbards, and the town of Longyearbyen, contains the northernmost community on the planet at the 78°N. Life in the High Arctic at this remote village has its unique features and qualities including the airport.

Visitors to Svalbard are not greeted with flags but instead warnings about polar bear safety and how to protect the fragile Arctic environment.

Tired, and still with congestion, Matt conjured up the energy to prepare his first impressions of Norway's Arctic as he wanders around the tiny Svalbard Airport and parking lot looking for clues of how this land is different.

Oh yeah, filming is occurring at 2 a.m.. This is, after all, the Land of the Midnight Sun.
