A Douglas DC-6B Cloudmaster built in 1956 makes its last ever flight on june 2nd 2020.

The aircraft was enroute from Fairbanks in Alaska, via Yellowknife in Canada, and is here seen as it passes west of Stord airport, Norway, heading for Stavanger airport - Sola.

The aircraft operated with Braathens SAFE from 1962 to 1973, and is the last remaining DC-6 to have operated with the airline.
For the past few years it has been operated by Everts Air Cargo in Alaska, USA.
As it has now been taken over by Jærmuseet and Flyhistorisk museum Sola, the aviation museum at Stavanger airport, it has been painted in its classic Braathens SAFE livery, and been given the old registration LN-SUB.

The intention is to display the aircraft at the museum at Sola, and this is therefore the final flight of this particular DC-6 before retirement.

Onboard was norwegian iditarod champion Thomas Wærner and his dogs, who had been left stranded in Alaska due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The plan to have the DC-6 return to Norway became the perfect solution for all parties, as it became easier to aquire sponsorship for the flight.

Although there was hope of the aircraft perhaps flying a bit closer to Stord, we had to make do with this flypast from a distance.
At least it was an opportunity to see (and hear) this classic DC-6 one final time before it was retired.
