The midwinter holiday has long been a part of indigenous European tradition. Yule, Alban Arthuan, Koliada, Saturnalia: all are pre-Christian midwinter festivals celebrating the solstice and the hope for new and fruitful beginnings in the coming year. On this day, I encourage all to drink toasts to the Allfather for victory and power. Drink toasts to Freyr and Njörðr for bounty and peace. Give blot if you wish and have a Yule boar (a Christmas ham) for dinner. :)

Our midwinter tradition has of course largely become a Christian holiday as well, and so I give thanks and pay respects to my Christian brothers in blood. European Christians celebrate the birth of the Christ Child during this time, who they believe was God in the form of man, brought to this Earth to atone for the sins of humanity.
