As luck would have it, my best friend from high school/secondary school just so happened to be in Yellowstone for her last day on the day we arrived. We arranged to meet up inside the Yellowstone Caldera at the Firehole River Swimming area to have some fun and cool off in the river. Once dried and dressed we drove a little north to the Norris Geyser Basin where we marvelled at the wonderful geothermal activity including mud pools, geysers, fumaroles and springs. We stopped at Virginia Cascade's for a late picnic lunch before continuing onto the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. On the way, we spotted a cinnamon black bear - but I had the wrong camera battery so you'll need to make do with photographs I'm afraid. We wandered along the South Rim Trail to reach Artist Point with a spectacular view along the canyon to Lower Yellowstone River Falls with its impressive 308ft drop. A little shocked by the huge crowds thanks to the many tour buses parked in the parking lot right next to the view point, we quickly moved onto the Brink of the Lower Falls on the other side of the canyon. The day finished with stir dry from the Canyon Eatery, we said our goodbyes and back to travelling as just the 2 of us, we headed north as the sun went down to reach the Roosevelt Lodge and Cabins where we'd spend the next 2 nights allowing us to explore the North of Yellowstone in the coming days.
